A first look at the sky for anyone. Meet the Sun, the Earth and the Moon, then find out why we have day and night.
Astronomy starts with three objects you have seen every day of your life: the Sun, the Earth you stand on, and the Moon. This course is for anyone curious about the sky, with no maths and no telescope needed. Short lessons meet each of the three in turn, explain day and night, the oldest pattern in the sky, and the year, then find out what the stars are. In astronomy a simple model you can hold in your hands - a lamp and an orange - often explains more than a page of words, so you will build a few. The day-and-night lesson finishes with a short quiz that counts toward the Day and night concept in the knowledge graph.
