Slides, turns and flips
A shape can be moved without changing it in three ways: a slide (translation) moves every point the same distance in the same direction, a turn (rotation) spins it about a fixed point by an angle, and a flip (reflection) reflects it in a mirror line. The copy is congruent to the original: the same shape and size. Only a flip changes which way round it is.

You can tell a slide, a turn and a flip apart, describe a slide on a grid, know that each gives a congruent copy, and know that only a flip turns a shape into its mirror image.
