Square roots
The square root of a number is the number that, multiplied by itself, makes it: √49 = 7 because 7 × 7 = 49. It goes back from a square to its side. Only square numbers have whole square roots; the square root of any other number lies between two whole numbers, like √30 between 5 and 6.
