Rocky planets
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, the four planets closest to the Sun, are small balls of rock and metal with solid ground. Mercury has almost no air and swings from very hot days to very cold nights; Venus's thick air traps heat and makes it the hottest planet; Mars is red, cold and dusty; the Earth is the only place we know of with life.
